  2. The Hotline Scene
This is, from point of view, the funniest scene of the movie and my personal favorite. The reason why I like it so much is because it is very funny but at the same time is very deep, as Gregory introduces a topic of discussion, this is, “Why are people so focus on physical appearance?”
The scene starts with Gregory feeling very sad and lonely after Candice broke up with him. While watching TV, he sees a commercial of a hotline, with a beautiful and sexy girl in it. He decides to call her and they start chatting. Although the girl sounds very sexy, she is in fact a middle-age, rather ugly woman.
She tries to seduce Gregory by telling him that she is only wearing a towel. Gregory, on the other hand, wants to share his feelings, and then asks why people are so focus on physical appearance. He also states that people can have a long-lasting, strong relationship if it is based on respect and mutual affection.
Realizing that that is the type of relationship he needs, he decides to write an Add in which the girl should be unattractive but smart and charming.

  3. I will write about two of the topics the movie deals with –instead of one- because I consider they are quite connected. Those themes are: social stereotypes and self-image. Throughout the movie, different social stereotypes can be noticed. For example, Rose’s sister and mother are beautiful women who like using fancy clothes and putting makeup on. Those women like looking attractive so as to be considered beautiful by people, especially by men.

During the first half of the movie, Rose displays just the opposite behaviour. She throws on whatever she finds first in her closet and wears baggy and dark clothes. She never worries about her image, and that is noticeable since she doesn’t either wear makeup or eat healthy food. I think she feels comfortable behaving in that way, but at the same time she knows that no man will feel attracted to her. Furthermore, she feels sad and considers herself ugly compared to her mother and sister. This fact of being compared to other people makes Rose have a negative self-image.

By the end of the movie, Rose’s astonishing makeover could easily make the audience think that she has given up and that the only way for her to find love is to fit a social stereotype. Far from that point of view, I strongly believe that before modifying her physical appearance, Rose first realized that she was beautiful in the inside and that she deserved true love and a long-lasting relationship because of being a woman with good values, good principles, and with plenty of things to offer to the man she loved.

  4. From my point of view one of the topics the movie deals with is love, but in this case, it’s a middle aged couple love. What I mean is that in “The Mirror has Two Faces” it is shown that love is ageless, that is there is no age to fall in love with other people. For instance, in the movie Rose, who is a woman in her mid-forties, is alone and her sister arranges a blind date for her with Gregory, a Maths’ professor at university. Before meeting Gregory, she believed she would always be alone and wouldn’t have a partner to share her life with. Fortunately, when both characters meet and know each other, she changes her way of thinking about love, she is in love and enjoys that feeling. Besides, throughout the movie
there are some society stereotypes concerning beauty and love and this is definitely one of them. Luckily, by the end of the film Gregory and Rose can break with this cultural pattern.

  6. Hi everybody! One of the themes that the movie deals with is self-confidence and self-esteem. Rose considers herself very ugly and unattractive. I chose the scene in which Rose is talking with Hannah, her mother. Rose asks Hannah how She feels being beautiful and she answers that it feels good, but Hannah wants her daughter feel better and shows her a picture in which there is a beautiful baby. Rose thinks the baby is her sister Claire because of her beauty but her mother tells her that the cute baby is Rose. She decides to transform her life changing her habits with diet, gym and fashion. This transformation gave Rose self-confidence to stand firm against Greg and to talk about her sincere feelings. This movie has a mixture of humour, love and a lot of themes that are very common in our society. By the way, I liked the movie because I love the happy endings !!! :) :) :)

  7. Hello!! From my point of view, one of the topics that the film deals with is stereotypes in our society concerning beauty and how we are affected by them. In the film one of the main characters, Rose, is an example of this because she feels that she doesn´t fit the stereotype of a pretty, young and perfect woman. For example, she thinks that is not good enough for Alex and her sister is more attractive than her.
Fortunately, Rose changes her life and the way in which she sees the world and that helps her to face up her very low self-esteem and those stereotypes that affect her.

  8. Hi everybody! One of the themes the movie deals with is stereotypes. I will write about this topic because the consent we have about it is present not only in the film, but also in the society every day.
Throughout the film, we can notice that Rose doesn’t fit the women stereotype, but what do we understand for that? In this case, the stereotype represents the woman every men likes and wants to have. Obviously, it has to do not only with physical appearance, but also with women´s way to hold themselves and the self-esteem they should have. As we know, not everyone can have a perfect body shape, face and hair, but this doesn’t make them ugly people. It has to do with confidence, something Rose lacks. Maybe, she is not beautiful in the way a woman should look but she has other values and attitudes that make her a very interesting woman. Rose is intelligent, smart, professional and above all, honest. Besides, she is fun to be with and I think it is enough!
From my point of view, I believe that as long as people can feel comfortable and at ease with them, they will show the same feeling to the rest of the society. If you lack attributes to be the kind of woman that fit the perfect women stereotype, you should look inside and you will find surely some better qualities. As I always say, it is all about attitude! 

  9. Hi everybody!
One of the main themes of the movie is how stereotypes in the society concerning beauty affect our self-confidence and self-esteem. As we know, people believe that a woman is beautiful when she has a nice face, good figure and appearance, and most of the times, this thought affects other people’s idea of themselves. This is because no all women fit the stereotype and people’s criticizing on them may cause a decrease in their self-esteem and self-confidence. But what is it that really makes a woman attractive? Things like good values, sense of humor, common sense, intelligence and honesty have to be taken into account to consider a woman beautiful.
As we could see in the movie, Rose’s self-assurance and self-esteem was low as she considered herself ugly since she didn’t fit the social stereotype about beauty. This was the reason why Rose decided to take care of herself and changed her style and diet and began going to the gym. However, she needn't have changed her physical appearance to become beautiful because her personality, good principles and values make her an extraordinary woman.

  10. Hi there!!!
I really like the scene when Rose is with Alex, living her most-wanted moment and she suddenly realizes that he doesn't deserve her. Watching the movie you get to know Rose and you end up liking her just the way she is, but most characters in the movie treat her as an unattractive person. As a woman, I felt empathy with her in several moments when she is ashamed or sad. In my opinion, every woman needs to feel wanted and I find really cruel to humiliate them. This scene fills me with pride because she finally does what you see and expect her to do the entire movie: she rejects Alex because it is clear to her that she's better than a man who has changed her for her sister. In the movie you see the development and change of Rose, in a way you consider this scene a won battle, moreover: YOUR OWN won battle.
As a last comment I’d like to add that every woman should have in her life more than one moment like this, in which you feel confident of yourself and you won’t let anyone make you feel ugly.
    See you!

  11. Hi! I chose to talk about one of the topics that the movie deals with which is:
Other people's image of ourselves and how that affects our own idea.
As the movie progresses, we get to know that Rose doesn't have a very high self-esteem since she doesn't consider herself as a beautiful woman. Besides, those who are around her, for instance her mother and sister, also make her feel that. Moreover, the guy she loved, changes her by her sister that was more beautiful than her. Rose does not realize she is beautiful until the scene in which she has a very deep conversation with her mother. The latter shows her a picture of when she was a little beautiful girl and confesses her that she had always been beautiful. After this, Rose starts going to the gym, wearing make-up and loving herself but then, when she meets Greg again and learns he doesn't like that Rose’s version, she understands she has to be herself and that she doesn't have to change for anyone since she can love and be loved just for being herself (beautiful or not).
I think that everybody deals with a similar situation at least once in life. We have to learn to love ourselves and do not pay attention to what others say about our image. If we want others to love us, we have to feel comfortable with ourselves first. See you!

  12. Hi everybody! I decided to write about one of the main themes of the story, that is, stereotypes. Firstly, I would like to differentiate between women archetypes. As we notice in the movie, there are two central types of women: the one who fits the social required stereotype and the one who does not. The former is considered a seductive and sexy girl who wears fashionable clothes, make-up, who tends to be self-centered and selfish many times, and who always attracts men but just to be a temporary affair. Why? Because men love those kind of women to have fun with, but not to be the mother of their children. A clear example of this kid of women is “Felicia”, the girl who appears in the advertisement of the hot line, or Claire, Rose´s sister, who is always concerned with superficial things such as calories or trends.
Going back to stereotypes, the other female type consists of those women who does not fit the social “rule”: the intelligent, fat and sensitive woman who looks for true love. If we think about Gregory´s theory, this is the type of women that he is searching for: someone who provides mutual respect and genuine affection, but, what about physical appearance? Apart from admiring the other´s personality, to fall in love with someone, you must feel attracted by the other person. Rose is an example of this stereotype, and there is a really powerful scene in the movie that represents the desperation of this woman after realizing the man she loves does not like her, apparently because she is “ugly”. Unfortunately, society has lot of influence on us, the key is try to be thick-skinned, and in this way, be and do what you like.

  13. Hi everybody!
I chose the scene of the conversation between Rose and her mother Hannah over breakfast. As we know, one of the main themes of the movie deals with family relationships. From my point of view this scene is like the great turning point not only in the movie but also in the personality of Rose, as she starts to think differently making up her mind to transform herself and changing her attitudes and physical style. In this conversation we can see that they discuss beauty. Apart from this, the mother confesses Rose that she feels jealous because of the true love her daughter has for Gregory as she believes that she has never felt such a great feeling for a man. After a while, the mother shows to Rose a photograph about a little baby and Rose assumes it is her sister Claire who has always fit the stereotype of the beautiful woman. Finally, Hannah told it is a picture of her. In this way, the mother told her she has always been a pretty and lovely woman. This s the moment when Rose realises that she is really beautiful and that she deserves a man who really values her. In this way, we can see how Rose´s attitude to change is affected by her mother who always seems to be overprotecting and controlling her daughter´s life. I really like the movie because I think it deals with lots of common themes and situations that we find in our daily life and it allows us to reflect about it.

  14. Hi everybody! I chose the scene in which Rose and Greg are having dinner at a restaurant. On the one hand, this part of the movie deals with a very important topic that is sharing interests in a loving relationship. Otherwise, people will get bored if they spend too much time together. At least, this is one of the few moments in which Greg's theory about sex obeys. On the other hand, I consider this scene particularly relevant because they start meeting and knowing each other. It perfectly describes how they are or behave in their lives. For instance, Rose says that she loves dancing while Greg prefers watching people doing that. Consindering this example, the audience may notice the characters have different personalities. What is more, Greg compares couples with mathematics. Taking it into account, viewers may deduce that he is really structured, ordered, and even sensible.

  15. HI..!!
I decided to talk about the scene in which Rose gives her interesting lecture. I really enjoy her explanation about what love is. How she defines courtly love and true love.I have fun at the examples that she gives with the princesses of the typical stories and their loves. I go along with her when she says that true love has spiritual dimensions, that we all want to fall in love because that experience makes us feel completely alive. Love is a feeling that everyone wants to have even though it may only last a moment or just hours. It feels great also when you feel that someone else loves you too.Loves is not just sex or physical attraction, it's when you feel an estranged feeling or sensation through your body. When you need another person to fulfill your life or someone to share it with.

  16. Hi everybody! Personally, I liked the scene in which Rose and Hannah talk about their feelings and emotions. From the very beginning of the movie, her mother is presented to the viewers as a vain and superficial woman, but when this scene takes place, she proves to have truly deep thoughts and feelings; she fully opens to her daughter and confesses things she has kept only for herself for many years. It is in this moment of the film when she appears to viewers as a real human being who is not made of stone but is affected by insecurities, regrets and disappointments.
This scene is also considered the key moment in Hannah and Rose’s relationship. From the beginning of the movie, these two women argue every time they talk. But when they have this conversation, they reach a level of deep, honest and meaningful communication since they completely open themselves, especially Hannah. This leads these ladies to improve their relationship and to become closer than before. As we saw in the movie, having a good communication with people you care about is really important, but for achieving it we need to be not only willing to talk but also willing to listen.
