I hope you are enjoying the different groups' stories and role-playing as much as I am! Lots of fun!! And thru your great presentations we are all learning a lot about the painters. Good!!
Here's an assignment for you.
1- Choose one of the stories presented so far (not yours, of course!) and change the end.
2- What do you remember about about the painters? What impressed you most?
Post your work on the blog. Enjoy!!!
1- The Starry Night Over the Rhone by Vincent Van Gogh
THE STARRY NIGHT OVER THE RHONE
It was the
summer of 1911 in a little town called Lyon in France. Phillip was a nice boy who
was only 5 years old. He was very attached to his sister Louise, a 10 year old
girl. They played all the time together and every evening went together to the
river´s bank to watch the majesty of the sky at twilight. They lived in a
simple house across the river with their parents Stephanie and Albert.
Stephanie, was a spinner who worked all day long in the house and took care of
the children. Albert was a farmer who worked hard and spent many hours outside
the town. He almost couldn’t spend time with his children.
One evening while Albert was having dinner at
home, the phone rang. It was his boss who had to let him know about a terrible
piece of news. The farm where he worked had been burnt down accidentally. This
fact ended making Albert redundant. After a fortnight, Albert applied for
another job and one day he received a charge from Germany. Unfortunately, he
had to move away from his family. After long hours of thinking, he decided to
take his son with him. Louise made up her mind to look after her mother who was
gravely ill.
(Picture of the river)The day before the
departure, Phillip and Louise went for a walk through the Rhone river’s bank. Unexpectedly,
they found a glass bottle behind a rock. Louise knew the tradition that if she
sent the bottle on its way to wherever it may end up, some day she would get a
reply. So, she wrote a message in a piece of paper she had in his dress pocket.
After writing for some minutes, she put the message into the bottle and threw
it away to the river just hoping to have fun:
What are you doing Louise?
In that bottle we are gonna be together forever.
Why don’t you come with me and dad tomorrow?
Because I have to help our mother with the
housework.
And where are we going Louise?
You are just travelling to a place not so far
from here. I will visit you every week and I will send you lots of letters.
Albert and Phillip arrived to Munich in 1912
and by the end of the year finally Albert got a job as postman. He spent many
hours working on the street and that was why his son had to be looked after by
his neighbour`s wife. Later on, Albert was informed he had to join the German
army to fight in the WWI and unfortunately few days after the war came to an
end Albert died. By these years Phillip was brought up by his nanny who finally
adopted him.
As the years went by, Phillip became a
prestigious lawyer in his city. He travelled frequently and was always busy. In the hard winter of 1965, Phillip had to make
a trip to France after being called by a well-known businessman to solve a
legal case. At first, he felt a weird sensation because he had never returned
to his hometown after moving to German.
When he arrived the first day he couldn’t stop
thinking about his childhood. So, he decided it was a good idea to come back to
his neighbourhood and see what had changed since he went away.
Luckily, he could solve the case in a flash and
then, he took some days off work. He went for a walk by the bank of the river
Rhone. While he was wandering and thinking across the river, a bottle was
carried by the sea up to his feet. Immediately, he picked up the bottle and
surprisingly, he found a sheet of paper with a message. At that moment, all his
life passed through his head. He opened it and suddenly, he recognised his
sister`s handwriting on it. Without a shadow of a doubt, he dashed to the house
where he used to live in his first years and knocked the door. Instantaneously,
an old woman opened it. Both of them had a queer feeling:
Excuse me, lady. I would like to talk with the
owner of the house.
Yes, sir. It’s me. What do you need?
How long have you been living here?
I’ve been living here all my whole life.
Louise are you?
Who are you? Phillip?
Do you remember this?
Oh, Phillip! Where have you been all this time?
I couldn’t stop thinking about you every single day in my life. I have been
waiting for you; I know some day you would return…
After meeting, they spent long hours talking about
their lives. The night arose and finally they made a snap decision to go
together to the place where they had met for the last time. They stayed all
night long gazing at the starry night.

2- The Box by Pierre Auguste Renoir
All’s fair in love and war.
Nothing
could overshadow the undistinguished performance of the Renoir Theatre’s plays,
except its excessive luxury: walls were covered with famous paintings, crystal
chandeliers hung from the roof and the scenery was full of fancy props.
Everything in that place was extravagant, including the well-known couple
sitting at one of the prestigious boxes. The husband named Keith, the respected
and wealthy mayor of the city, and his wife, Catherine, an ambitious and
determined woman overshadowed by her husbands mere presence.
As
they were waiting for the opera to start, the man couldn’t avoid giving an
exaggerated opinion about the theatre and its features. According to him,
nothing in the city could be compared to it.
“The
ceiling makes me feel like I’m in Heaven! Don’t you agree, darling?” he said “I
would love to have that painting in our house.”
“I
don’t know if that kind of painting would suit our house.”
“It
surely would! Just look at it! It’s so fresh… and it makes me feel so young…”
“So…
you like it because it makes you feel young?” she asked “I know you, Keith… you
are such a whimsy.”
“What
do you mean by that, darling?” the man absentmindedly asked while he was
taking his binoculars out of his pocket.
“You
have ephemeral crushes all the time, Keith.” she replied calmly. For her it was
more of a game which consisted in her trying to extract information from him so
as to confirm her suspicions; feelings were clearly not involved.
“You
might be right, it may be a crush, but I actually think it would be a nice
painting to have.” Keith said while the lights of the whole theatre began to
dim. “Let’s enjoy the play, darling.”
The
curtain began to open slowly as Keith was preparing his binoculars for the
moment in which the performers came on stage. A choral and solemn melody began,
an enormous ship appeared from the left side of the stage and the first actors
came out dressed in Roman clothes.
The
woman’s eyes landed on her husband, expecting him to come clean; something she
knew would never happen. As she realised that he was extremely fixated on an
upper box, she turned her gaze away from him with indifference and abstracted
herself into her thoughts. After several acts, the curtains were drawn and the
wife couldn’t help relating the opera with her own ongoing stiff marriage.
“What
a sorrowful story! Especially the relationship between the couple, he’s so
disrespectful to her!’’ the woman exclaimed. “Does it not remind you of
someone?”
“I
think you’re being a bit sentimental, Catherine. I can’t see anything wrong
with them!”
“Oh,
really? What about his evident lack of interest in her? He is obviously having
an affair with another woman… or man.”
“Well
darling,” he said arrogantly “I consider that common in every man's life.”
The
woman opened her mouth trying to extract more information from him. But she
closed it immediately since she realised that there was no need for that. He
wouldn’t say more about it, because now he knew that those simple words had
revealed more than enough. With a mixture of satisfaction and confirmation, she
drew a pleased smile on her face.
‘I
just knew it! You won’t get away with this Keith, everyone will know about your
affairs with him.’ Catherine threatened him and began to strut away from the
box, but he quickly grasped her arm with great force and made her face him.
“You
dirty tramp! You are not going to say a word about it!” Keith exclaimed “You had nothing before I met you,
remember that?, I took you out from poverty and your dirty rags. You wouldn’t
dare say a word about this!”
Catherine
lets herself free from his grasp and starts strolling around the box teasing
him,“I can’t wait to see the headlines tomorrow… with your stupid face in the
front cover… it will ruin not only your reputation but your whole life.”
she smirked vindictively. “Poor little Keith… your whole career down the
drain…”
“You
don’t have the power to do that! You’re nothing and you know it! Who is going
to believe you, anyway?”
“Who
cares? Think about it, honey darling… just a floating rumour in the air is enough
to destroy you! And when that happens you won’t be able to see him
anymore! Imagine people seeing you with another man! They will instantly think
wrong! You won’t even have a chance to go to your dear mens club… well... if
that’s what you actually did.”
“Alright
then... lets just get down to business” he said with a defeated expression on
his face, “What is it that you actually want? Money? A house? Jewelry? I can
give you anything you desire, just name it.”, desperation starting to take over
his voice.
“
Hahaha you cannot buy me like you always do with the people that surround you!”
she said firmly. “All I want is revenge and there’s nothing you can do to stop
me!” she said as she turned her back to him, leaning at the box’s edge, looking
at the people in the audience “take a good look Keith, all those people who
respect and admire you now, will eat you alive and suck you dry tomorrow!“
All
of sudden, fear enveloped his thoughts blinding all his reason and that fear
took over his body. He crept silently behind her, grabbed her shoulders
tenderly and whispered “Sorry darling but I don’t think you will live to see
tomorrow”
Having
no time to resist his shove, Catherine found herself falling down the balcony.
Then, loud screams erupted through the auditorium and everyone’s gaze was
immediately put upon the well respected mayor.

3- Jujuy by Antonio Berni
Jujuy - A change of life.
Far, far away the big city
of Jujuy, there was a small village where people never rest. Some women had
been living there since they were born. Every morning they woke up expecting
their daily routine to happen one more time. The sun rose very early in the
morning and blazed down on the women who were already working. They dedicated
their lives to craft, do pottery, weave sweaters and slippers, cook typical
foods, and raise goats and ducks. But that is not all. They had to take their
children with them to work since there was no school for the little kids to go,
and when they all came back home, the working women had to clean the house,
tidy the rooms and do all the household chores.
After a really hard day of
work, one of the women said:
AGO-I am very tired of this
life. We spend the whole day working in an extremely poor condition.
CARO-Not only that but also
we earn very little money which is not enough to give our children what they
need.
AGO-Don’t you think we
deserve a better lifestyle?
CARO-Yes but it is
impossible here. Sometimes I imagine how people live in other places.
MARY-You really think is
different in other places?
CARO-Everything can be
better than here.
AGO-Why don’t we go
somewhere else?
MARY-Are you crazy? We
can’t.
CARO-Why you say that? It
sounds great.
MARY-No, we were born here,
we are used to living here and we don’t even know how is life in other places.
AGO-You are right but how
difficult can it be? After all, we live like slaves here.
MARY-I don’t agree. It
sounds complicated to sudden leave and start over in an unknown place.
CARO-I consider it a great
idea. Besides, what can we lose but trying? We have nothing here.
AGO-why don’t we leave
tomorrow?!
MARY-Won’t you miss living
here?
CARO -No way. Pack your
things.
MARY-I am not sure.
AGO-Then you will like it
and you will thank us.
MARY-I will think about it.
CARO-You won’t!. You are
coming. I promise you won’t regret it.
The women kept arguing for
a while, trying to convince Mary.
After that, they came back
home and remained silent as they were thinking if it was a good idea or not
including those who wanted to leave. Mary didn’t want to leave, she knew that
the other women were right but she was completely afraid. That night before
leaving, she looked at her son and she understood that if there was something
better out there, she had to look for it because he deserved a better life. The
following day, they saw the landscape for the last time. Mary hesitated until
the last second but she finally joined the women. They didn’t know where they
were going, but they did have the hope that out there will be an answer for
their lives. They took their things and went away without looking back.

The Old Man in Sorrow by Vincent Van Gogh
What seemed a normal and
ordinary day became a nightmare. Frank Grimes was a fifty-year-old single man
who lived alone in the suburbs and worked as a machine operator in a textile
industry. The morning of the 21st of June was stormy and the rain
had been pouring down for a long time. Despite having gone through a tough
working week, he felt glad because the previous night he had won a bet in a bar
and he was planning to spend the money of the prize on presents for his
grandchildren.
Frank got dressed as usual,
had a cup of coffee and went to work. After he checked in, he started doing his
daily work. It consisted of operating a machine which added buttons to
finished jeans. Suddenly, a secretary asked Frank to go to the boss’s office
“Good morning, Mrs
Johnson”, Frank said politely
“Good morning, Mr Grimes”,
said the boss. “Please have a sit. We need to talk”
“Yes, sure. Is there any
problem?”
“You know, Mr Grimes,
you’ve been working in our factory for a very long time and you have always
been an excellent worker. We really do appreciate your being here. Therefore,
we believe that it’s time for you to stay more time at home and enjoy your
family. You need to have more free time.”
“Do you mean having less
working hours per day?” Frank asked. He didn’t really understood Mrs Johnson’s
point.
“I don’t think you get my point. You just
consider my offer as permanent holidays”
“Are you firing me?” Frank
protested angrily.
“The truth is, Frank, that
we’ve been thinking about buying new and more modern machinery for the factory.
Thus, we will need younger employees who are able to operate them properly.”
Mrs Johnson was now trying to make Frank be reasonable.
“That is absolutely not
fair! I’m smart and I could learn whatever you teach me! I truly need this job.
You can’t fire me just because you think I’m old.”
“I am sorry, Mr Grimes,
it’s my final word. Please pick up your belongings and leave the building.”
Frank could not believe
what was going on. A lifetime working at the same factory had been
underestimated. The boss had thrown him away like useless trash. He had never
felt as humiliated as he felt at that time. He got more and more frustrated. He
wandered for a while feeling completely lost. When Frank realized he was in
front of the bar he usually went to, he knew he needed to talk to someone about
his problems. Frank was a very close friend of the barman called Larry, so he
approached him.
“Hey Frank! What’s up?,”
said Larry cheerfully, “why are you looking so mad?”
“Oh, man. I’ve just got fired.
The boss just kicked me out,” Frank replied outrageously.
“Fired? That’s terrible!
Didn’t he tell you why?
“Can you believe that she
fired me because I’m old? That’s even worse than having no reason! I’m shocked.
What am I going to do now? I have no job, I live alone, my family is so far
away, and what´s more we haven't talked since my daughter´s wedding”
“That’s really bad! You
should calm down a little bit.”
“I don’t want to be calm. I just want to go
and pull that factory down! It was so unfair!”
“But revenge is not the
answer! How will you feel then? Will you get another job if you destroy the
factory? What can you do now to get through this issue?
“Well, I have some savings.
There’s some money I could use till I get another job.
“You see? Revenge is not an
option. Now calm down and have beer with me.”
Although Frank’s situation
was very frustrating, Larry could convince him to change his mind and not let
be influenced by rage. While unemployed, Frank visited his family and got
closer to them. He used his savings until he got a new job. It’s remarkable
that Frank did what not many people would do. He started all over again.

ResponderEliminarHello there! In this post I send you the end of the story "All's fair in love and war," and my opinion about one of the painters we talked about the previous class.
ResponderEliminarStory: All’s fair in love and war.

“Do you want to know something? I have changed my mind right now. I have lived all my life hidden in the shadows. I can’t stand it any more. I must confess that I never loved you, woman. I never cared about you.”
“Finally, you are telling me the truth. But why did you marry me?”
“I got married because I would never marry a man. Even if it had been possible, I could never do it. That’s why the person that I still love is a dead man.”
“You are lying. I saw you with an old gentleman yesterday.”
“Do you think Thomas is my lover? Oh, crazy woman. I am homosexual but I have a good taste. Thomas is my dead lover’s older brother. Every single day we visit John’s grave.”
Keith’s wife was impressed by his secret. Finally, Keith and his wife sat down again. They remained silence while their eyes were fixed on the opera.
Painter:
The painter that most impressed me was Vincent Van Gogh, especially when he cut his ear off in a difficult moment of his life. Madness had taken his mind and because he knew his own darkness, he decided to live in an asylum. I think he was brave because he tried to correct his mind in this place, or just because he feared of his own misleading mind.
Good Ago, though I would like to know what happens to them in the end... do they stay together or not?
EliminarVan Gogh's life was certainly amazing and his paintings out of this world.

ResponderEliminarI have chosen "The starry night over the Rhone"
ResponderEliminarLuckily, he could solve the case in a flash and then, he took some days off work. He went for a walk by the bank of the river Rhone. "Hello little girl, I would like to talk with the owner of the house."
Immediately a woman appeared behind the girl and sent her inside.
"Hello, who are you?" the woman asked.
"Hello, I am Phillip. I would like to talk with the owner of the house," Phillip repeated.
"It's me. What do you need?"
Phillip told her he was looking for the former owner of the house. He explained to her that he used to live there but that he spent almost all his life in Germany and that he only wanted to meet her sister Louise again.
"Louise?" exclaimed surprised the lady. "She was my mother," she continued, "she died last year. She told me you would return some day. Please, come in!"
Phillip spent the whole day in that old house while the woman told him every memory she kept of his mother.
Regarding to the painters we dealt with, I would like to give some recognition to Berni since he was an Argentinean artist who had the opportunity to study with great European painters. What liked me most of him was that he showed social injustice and poverty in our country in many of his paintings, some of them took place in slums and had a main character called Juanito Laguna.
good end Juliana.
EliminarI am glad you can appreciate Berni's work. He was a fantastic painter!
Old Man in Sorrow –Alternative ending
ResponderEliminar“That’s really bad! What are you planning to do, Frank?”
“I don’t know... I’m so upset right now! I just want to go and pull that factory down! It is so unfair!”
“What do you mean by that? Are you saying that you want to actually destroy the building?”
“No, of course no, dude! That would generate a lot of dust and noise; maybe some innocent people would get hurt…” said Frank thoughtfully “Definitely it is not my style… But, you know, I know things, Larry… nasty things about the company.”
Suddenly Frank stopped talking and his friend’s glance landed on him. Larry’s hands ceased cleaning frenetically the bar to look at his friend in the eye.
“Only if you could just…” said Frank shakily “I need your help, dude.”
“I’m not sure if I want to kwon how I can help you…”
“I just need your contacts! With all the information I have and with all those people you know, we can tear them down!” exclaimed the old man with a gloom of excitement in his eyes.
“We?! Wait a minute, Frank. I haven’t said I will help you… I mean, you’re my friend, but it seems just too dangerous… I’ve heard some things about the company’s owners and they don’t fool around with this sort of stuffs, they just act! And you know what that means!” expressed worriedly the barman. “Besides, you not only need information, you also need something to back it up!”
“I’m not an idiot, Larry. I know this is not a child’s game. Since I started working in that company I’ve been saving important documents and other things, and now, I’ve got everything I need.” He explained with a soft tone. “I will do it with or without your help,” said Frank determinedly “of course, it would be easier if you provide me with your contacts.”
Larry’s eyes opened in amazement. He was extremely shocked by his friend’s disclosure. He knew he was an intelligent man, but he had never imagined that he would be so astute that he would save incriminating information just in case.
“Wow dude. You let me speechless… you must show me that evidence you have, but hell yeah! I will help you!” exclaimed the barman “If you’re going to do it anyway, I should give you a hand, right? Just tell me what you need.”
The men talked for hours up to there was nobody else in the bar. And so, months passed normally until one day, on September 14th, the front covers of the most significant newspapers in the city were covered with headlines such as, “Enormous offset caused important company’s bankruptcy.”
Concerning the painters, the one that impressed me most was Vincent Van Gogh because of the tough life he had and the great paintings he made.
According to what I could hear from my mates, it seems that he was a tormented man who found it difficult to adapt to the society, or at least, he was trying to find his place in the world. Therefore, he moved from one place to another, he couldn’t maintain normal jobs and he did not stand living with other people. His mind was nothing like others and anyone can tell about this by contemplating his paintings, his techniques, etc.
However, what really surprised me about his personal life was the fact that he put himself into an asylum, because I can only picture that kind of places as dark and terrifying, especially in those days.
very good job Giuliana.
EliminarI go along with you.... Van Gogh's life and personality are fascinating. He was certainly different and very talented to express it!
Hi everybody! I´ve chosen the story "All´s fair in love and war" and I´ve thought about this alternative ending:
ResponderEliminar“Alright then... let´s just get down to business” he said with a defeated expression on his face, “What is it that you actually want? Money? A house? Jewellery? I can give you anything you desire, just name it”, desperation starting to take over his voice.
“Hahaha you cannot buy me like you always do with the people that surround you!” she said firmly.
“All I want is revenge and there’s nothing you can do to stop me!” she said as she turned her back to him, leaning at the box’s edge, looking at the people in the audience “take a good look Keith, all those people who respect and admire you now, will eat you alive and suck you dry tomorrow!“
Suddenly, Keith felt a smooth hand shaking his shoulder. Darling! …Keith wake up! The play has just finished! Oh what happened darling? He replied rashly standing up from his seat.
You missed almost all of the play! You fell asleep with your binoculars on your hands!
Keith felt a feeling of satisfaction at that moment. He had fell asleep and everything had been a product of his imagination. Oh I´m sorry darling …maybe I am a little weary, I wanna go home and rest a bit. After a while they decided to leave the opera and go home together. In their way back, Keith couldn't stop thinking about asking his wife about the play, the story and the couple, but he knew it wouldn't be a good idea.
Concerning the painters, I can say all of them caught my attention because I personally have a big interest in the world history of art and I really love learning about the painters especially the famous paintings.
Taking into account the ones with dealt with in class, I can say they all have an interesting life as most of the famous painters regarding his dedication and passion in painting but the one who had always impressed me is Vincent Van Gogh because I've always been fascinated with his life and above all his expression on his paintings, knowing that he sold only one of them during his lifetime.
His relationship with his brother Theo is something that caught my attention. We can say he was a very important piece in his life and career because of is support and also the 800 letters which today are the main source of information to know about his life. Vang Gogh also suffered from mental illnesses that from my own thoughts were the main reason of his perfection and fullness in his works.
Personally I think the greatest works in the world of art were created by him.
Story: good job.
EliminarI couldn't agree more with you about Van Gogh! His art is really touching.
I choose "The starry night over the Rhone"
ResponderEliminarLuckily, he could solve the case in a flash and then, he took some days off work. He went for a walk by the bank of the river Rhone. While he was wandering and thinking across the river, a bottle was carried by the sea up to his feet. At that moment, he picked up the bottle and surprisingly, he found a sheet of paper with a message………
At that moment he remembered his childhood and he felt an overwhelming desire to return home and meet her sister.
When he arrived to his little town, he recalled the moments that he spent with his sister. So, he dashed to the house where he used to live and he got a disgusting surprise. The house was on sale. “where did my sister go?,” he thought worriedly.
Some minutes later, a woman who was walking around the place, told him that the old woman who lived in that house had died a week ago. He couldn´t believe what he was hearing. Her sister died and he couldn´t say goodbye. He felt gloomy and unhappy but there was no reason for him to stay in that place. So he decided to return and go on with his life.
This is an EDI work Agustina so you didn't have to do it, but thanks for participating anyway!
EliminarHello! I chose "Old Man in Sorrow"
ResponderEliminar“I don’t want to be calm. I just want to go and pull that factory down! It was so unfair!”
“Go ahead then” Larry answered “but if you are going to do it, do it right!”
“What do you mean?” Frank asked in shock.
“Here!” the bartender said, giving him a bottle of naphtha “burn the whole place down! Do it for all the factory employees who got fired… just like me!”
Frank got up, graved the bottle of naphtha and went home. Larry doubted his friend was able to do something like that, though people can always surprise you. Larry was tired and the bar was empty so he decided to close early. He went home, drank a cup of tea and watched TV until he felt asleep.
He was woken up by the sound of sirens, and the unpleasant smell of smoke. He immediately got up, looked thought his window and saw the whole factory on fire. The TV was still on and Frank’s face was in it. “Crazy man destroys factory for revenge” the headline said. Larry was in shock, he had done it and by the look on his face, he had no regrets.
Concerning the authors, I was impressed by Van Gogh’s life, he suffered a lot and the fact that he cut off his ear says a lot about a painful his life was. I also like Antonio Berni’s work, specially the use of real objects in his paintings.
good Nacho. So, the guy dared in the end!!
EliminarHi there! I have an alternative ending for "All’s Fair in Love and War"
ResponderEliminar“Alright then... let’s just get down to business” he said with a defeated expression on his face, “What is it that you actually want? Money? A house? Jewelry? I can give you anything you desire, just name It.”, desperation starting to take over his voice.
“Are you serious?” said Catherine. “You are not going to pay me to keep your secret safe. Besides, you could never make me feel happy. You’re not as charming as James is…” suddenly, Ctaherine stopped talking. Her countenance showed fear, panic and astonishment.
“James?” asked Keith, confused “Who is James? Wait a second… are you cheating on me too? How dare you accuse of being unfaithful when you have been behaving the same way? Who knows how long you have been having that affair!”
“Hold on, Keith”, said Catherine. “We both know this situation is fragile. None of us benefits from betraying each other. Moreover, please let’s be honest. We’ve been distanced for a long time. Our marriage is just a fake we have been taking advantage of to have a good public image. I propose you a deal” now Catherine was trying to twist the situation. She had revealed a secret from hers which was supposed to stay secret.
“Tell me, then”, said Keith
“I will not tell anything about your affair if you do not reveal mine. Bu that’s not all. I also want you to give me half of your possessions. Then we’ll get divorced and both of us will continue our lives separate and freely.
“What a hypocrite you are!” yielded Keith “you’ve been lying to me and now you want to steal from me! Forget about it.
“Think about it, dear. It’s good for us to keep having our respectable public image”
“I accept, then. But only because I want to get rid of you. I cannot believe I ever thought about marrying you”
As regards the painters, I find Van Gogh's life very interesting. He had such a problematic life and went through many existential crisis. What's more, he experienced some love misfortunes and was then diagnosed with a mental illness. I believe it is remarkable the way Van Gogh translated his sorrow and deep feelings into his paintings. It is a shame he was not admired and famous at his times.
Story: good use of language.
EliminarI share your admiration for Van Gogh's talent to express so much beauty in his work in spite of his painful life.
Hi everybody! I chose "All´s fair in love and war".
ResponderEliminarAlright then... let´s just get down to business” he said with a defeated expression on his face, “What is it that you actually want? Money? A house?
All of sudden, fear enveloped his thoughts blinding all his reason and that fear took over his body. Decidedly, with his eyes full of tears, he said to her “Sorry darling but you won’t take revenge, I have spent all my life trying to gain the admiration of the people and I will not stand this kind of frustration”. A few seconds later, he approached the balcony and added “I am not willing to lose; I'd rather die than be ridiculed”. Without thinking, he jumped off and died. Her wife´s impression abounded.
Concerning the painters, I ´m impressed by Van Gogh's life. Vincent caught my attention because he was a man who had to experience hard situations during his life. In spite of this, he could express all his feelings and emotions in his paintings and that is why they are amazing.
That is a change in the story!
EliminarYes, Van Gogh's life was amazingly hard and in spite of that, he created so much beauty for us to enjoy!
Hi! another ending to "All's fair in love and war" :)
ResponderEliminar“ Hahaha you cannot buy me like you always do with the people that surround you!” she said firmly. “All I want is revenge and there’s nothing you can do to stop me!” she said as she turned her back to him, leaning at the box’s edge, looking at the people in the audience “take a good look Keith, all those people who respect and admire you now, will eat you alive and suck you dry tomorrow!“
Keith stood beside Catherine and looked to all the people below them with an arrogant look. He was not going to be the laughing stock of all that people so he knew exactly what he was going to do. In fact, he had already thought about it but he hadn’t found the opportunity. Minutes after, the opera finished and light went out. People started clapping and Keith, taking advantage of the situation, went away.
Catherine knew he would try to stop her in some way or maybe, make her disappear, he would not let her succeed. Then she followed him making sure he didn’t notice her presence close to him. They finally arrived at an old house that was very far from the city. She waited until he entered the house and looked through a window. She couldn’t believe what she was watching. Keith and his lover were preparing their luggage to run away. Without even thinking about it, she started knocking all the neighbours’ doors and a lot of people met in front of the house. Nobody knew what was going on but people were too curious and the woman knew that. That was exactly what she needed, both intriguing people and the mayor at fault. Her husband was finally giving her what she wanted as he had always done. When the men were ready to escape, they opened the door to go out and they found all the people looking at them totally shocked and confused. Catherine shouted they were the respectable mayor and his lover so immediately, people started jeering at them and throwing things to them. The men began to run as fast as they could through the crowd until they were totally out of the city. Thus, Catherine became the mayor of the city.
Concerning the painters, the one I liked most was Berni since he was an Argentinean artist who studied with European painters and dedicated to show our country's reality at that moment. He painted social injustice, poverty, people's conditions and life. Even people's faces, expressions and moods were perfectly detailed in his paintings.
Berni's paintings are amazing! you are right!

Hi there! I’ve chosen the story of Jujuy to change the end.
ResponderEliminarAlternative ending to JUJUY.
“After that, they came back home and remained silent as they were thinking if it was a good idea or not including those who wanted to leave. Mary didn’t want to leave, she knew that the other women were right but she was completely afraid. That night, Mary came up with an idea: they would use their savings to buy a ticket for one of them. That woman would travel to the capital and sell the things they made. She would travel once a month as everything was expensive there. They would save the extra money and when they have saved enough, they would move to the city and start their own business there. ”
“Two years later, the three women have set their own factory in the capital and are well known for their work. Their children are happy and with a lot more opportunities for their futures.”
About the painters, the life that impressed me the most of the painters is that of Vincent Van Goh. I knew nothing about him and it was shocking to find out that he was mentally ill. It seems surprising now that a man with such a talent was unknown in his time. It makes me think about artists, they do what they love without knowing the impact they may have in future generations.
yes! so much artistic work is valued after creators are gone, but I guess they get a kind of inmortality in exchange for their pain when alive. Van Gogh is certainly an example.

All of sudden, Catherine approached Keith violently. At that moment the man realized her wife was holding a knife.
“Wait Catherine! Don't do things you will regret afterwards”
“Regret? As you said, I have nothing to lose but you…”
“Catherine, change your mind… Let's talk, let's agree on a deal that fits both sides”
“What for? I'll always be unprotected if you're alive. But if not, I'll be safe and calm, won´t I? And on top of that, I'll waste your good fortune as I wish, laughing out loud when remembering about you. Bye my pseudo love.”
Catherine stabbed Keith in his chest and broke in tears telling other people that a stranger came to the box and assassinated his dear husband.
Concerning the painters, all of them have distinctive and interesting characteristics. For instance, Pierre Renoir was an excellent artist, but what impressed me the most was the fact that he started his career on craftworks from his childhood and he continued doing it throughout his entire life. The fact of getting success while he was alive also is a strange feature of this artist, since most of painters were considered genius after their death. Taking into account Vincent van Gogh, I would say that his life, in general, is what called my attention. From the first part of his life, he experienced many misfortunes, such as being born after a stillborn brother who also had been named Vincent, or having had to leave school and to go work. However, I find interesting the connection with his mother in the artistic field, since both were fond of nature, lights, and drawing. Considering love, it is unbelievable that he could not sustain a normal relationship, or that he could not choose the ideal woman to marry, he was always suffering and deprived of love. Finally, the fact of having sipped on turpentine and eaten paint, makes me think of van Gogh as a mentally disordered person, who required strict help but unfortunately nobody gave it. Antonio Berni is the last painter. What I really like from him, is the way he managed to criticize society through his paintings. In this way, I highly admire his interest on social matters and reality.
I forgot the introduction to the task!! My alternative ending is from "All's fair in love and war". :)

ResponderEliminarHi! I’ve chosen “A change of life” to create another alternative ending.
ResponderEliminarAfter that, they came back home and remained silent as they were thinking if it was a good idea or not, including those who wanted to leave. As hours passed by, the women decided they were the only ones who should travel in order to find a better place to live. The night fell and they could have a few hours rest since they would leave the town the following day. Everything was according to plan. They had bought their bus’ tickets and had prepared their entire luggage.
The next day, all the women woke up and left their houses because they should arrive to the bus station on time. Fortunately, they could catch/take the bus and they thought a new life would begin for them. Suddenly, one of them, Ago, received a phone call. It was a hospital secretary who explained that her mother had suffered an accident and she had been admitted there. In a flash, Ago went off the bus and her friends did it too. They returned to Jujuy and visited Ago’s mother. There, they spent many hours until the old woman could finally recover. During all this time, all of them came to the conclusion that they should continue living in that place since their past and present had been developed there.
Concerning the authors, I find Antonio Berni’s life very interesting since I only knew a little about him and he was an Argentinian painter, sculptor and printmaker. What calls my attention is that he studied arts in Europe among other famous painters. Later, he returned to Argentina and he began to produce paintings about poverty, people’s conditions, life and social injustice as well as collages. They were centred on everyday life of a boy from the slums of Buenos Aires, Juanito Laguna. Besides, on those collages, Berni put some things he found in the slums such as metal, pieces of newspapers, etc.

EliminarI am glad you appreciate Berni's work. He was no doubt, a great artist!
